Teressa Clark

UX Design Manager at Colgate-Palmolive

“ It was an absolute joy working with Penny during her year-long UX internship at Colgate-Palmolive. As her direct manager, I had the pleasure of collaborating with her on multiple projects, most notably, our Colgate-Palmolive Design System, Hills account research, and an AI tool product evaluation.

When Penny joined, she had minimal experience with design systems, but through her initiative and dedication to learning, she quickly upskilled and became a pivotal part of the team. Her background in architecture brought a unique lens to system thinking, helping us approach structure and consistency in thoughtful, scalable ways.

One of Penny’s standout contributions was designing and delivering 10 components for our design system. She thoughtfully reviewed use case scenarios, iterated based on feedback, polished visual design, and helped document each component so other designers could confidently adopt them into their work. Her attention to detail and sense of ownership greatly elevated the quality and usability of our system.

Penny also demonstrated strong research and storytelling skills. On the Hills project, she conducted qualitative usability tests, synthesized insights, and presented findings to help guide the team. For our design system research, she interviewed internal designers, analyzed feedback, and distilled a cohesive story through her presentations, helping the team take meaningful, informed action. She also contributed to an AI tool heuristic evaluation, showcasing her adaptability and curiosity in working with emerging technologies.

Throughout it all, Penny maintained a strong user-centered mindset, always grounding her decisions in the needs and experiences of real people. She is incredibly hardworking, collaborative, and thoughtful. She brings a sharp eye for visual design, strong critical thinking skills, strong collaboration, and a positive, proactive attitude to everything she does. Any team would be lucky to have her, and I can’t wait to see where she goes next.”

Aiyana Ruiz

Social Media & Communications Administrative Aide at NYU Applied Psychology

Penny is an incredibly reliable and creative collaborator. Her work is consistently high quality and thoughtful. She works well independently and provides valuable contributions in group settings. What I have found most impressive about Penny's work ethic is her organization. Her processes and systems of working are extremely thorough. Some of her outlines are so helpful to the creative process that I've adapted them into my own work.”

One of the major projects she worked on during her time at NYU Applied Psychology was a campaign on various kinds of stressors and stress responses. Her role in this project was to take a very simple, written outline and flesh it out into a full Instagram campaign of eight posts. Throughout this process, she was incredibly communicative, worked at a fast pace, provided end products in multiple formats, and demonstrated an ability to stay on brand for our program.

On very little direction, Penny can take an idea and flesh it out into a fully fleshed-out end product. She takes feedback with grace and gives valuable feedback in exchange. As our graphic designer for social media content, she demonstrated a strong eye for design, understanding what was missing, and enhancing every project she worked on. She is also able to elaborate on her reasoning for her choices, giving insight into her process in a helpful way that informs the collaboration. She is a strong communicator and always considerate of others' time. She is also flexible, willing to work on multiple projects at once, switch gears when necessary, and prioritize according to the needs of the work. It was a pleasure to work with Penny, and I would recommend her to any team.”
